Firesafe is the Nordic region’s largest total fire protection supplier. In addition to traditional fire retention, the company has in recent years also focused on offshore and marine through its subsidiary Firesafe Energy.
“We are very proud and happy for winning this contract. It shows that Equinor and Aker Solutions make it possible for new and hungry players with good technology to win in competition with far larger players”, says General Manager at Firesafe Energy AS, Erik Ulevik.
The contract involves design, production and assistance during installation of approximately 700 meters of so-called drain gullies and fire walls. These are flexible fire barriers with widths from 360mm to 1000mm.Design-wise, they are based on our other products for stopping blowouts and fires around risers, called Fire & Blast Bellows as recently have been delivered to the Johan Sverdrup Drilling Platform.
In short, the products consist of a set of fire resistant fabrics designed for, and have passed tests for, 10 minutes of Jetfire 350 kW/m2 with direct subsequent 110 minutes of hydrocarbon fire (H0).
The drain gullies that go both longitudinal and transverse on the FPSO are welded to the enormous modules, the deck sections and the transverse walls, just below the deck of the ship. They are designed, to on a regular basis, lead away overwater and to help ensure safe evacuation by stopping the spread of fire if the accident occurs.
The lifetime expectancy of the products that will operate in extreme weather conditions in the Barents Sea is 30 years. To ensure this, special fabrics from the sister company Protan AS have been used.
Design starts immediately with delivery at the beginning of 2020 and assembly according to the project’s plans.
