On a module-based vessel like an FPSO, there will, due to weather and waves, be movement between the modules and between the hull and the modules. Any link between these must therefore be flexible!
- The drain gullies’ purpose is to lead water back to the ocean and at the same time be a fire barrier, these are horizontal with a slope.
- The flexible fire walls are vertical walls between modules, hull, or rigid fire walls.
- The gullies and walls may be connected to each other where necessary.
According to NORSOK S-001, the main areas on an FPSO shall be separated by fire barriers that as a minimum shall be able to resist a fire load equal to H0 if they can be exposed to hydrocarbons. Cooling from fire water shall not be a part of the calculation.
